Fort Belvoir will hold its annual Military Retiree Appreciation Day on September 24, 2011. The event will be held at the Barden Education Center on Belvoir Road across from Pullen Field. The event starts at 8:00AM and parking is behind the Education Center or you may also park in the Chapel parking lot.

Guest speakers include the Garrison Commander and the Hospital Commander. There will be a number of vendors to provide information about current needs and issues, as well as, the Health Fair and drawings for door prizes.

It has taken six years, but a major milestone of BRAC has been accomplished with the opening of the new Fort Belvoir Community Hospital on August 31, 2011. The project started over 6 years ago and culminated in the completion of a new state of the art medical facility having triple the bed capacity to 120 beds and nearly double the number of clinics compared to its predecessor.

The medical staff and employees assigned to the new hospital had the mission of continuing high quality health care while closing the old Walter Reed Medical Center and in-patient care at Malcomb Grow Medical Center at Andrews AFB, moving patients to new facilities, and learning the equipment and processes in the new hospital.
