Northern VA Family Services Diaper Drive

Diaper Drive Ends May 18th

Northern Virginia Family Services (nvfs.org) is sponsoring a "Diaper Drive" from now until May 18. You can drop off diapers at one of these Alexandria and Fort Hunt area collection sites:

Occasionally Cake - 207 King St, Alexandria VA 22314

Occasionally Cake - 8859 Richmond Highway Alexandria, VA 22309

Fort Hunt Safeway - 7900 Fort Hunt Road Alexandria, VA 22308

St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church - 8531 Riverside Road Alexandria, VA 22308

Heritage Presbyterian Church - 8503 Fort Hunt Rd Alexandria, VA 22308The Fort Hunt Safeway, Saint Aidan's School/Church, Heritage Presbyterian Church.

These complete packages (or those opened packs that someone has outgrown, or miracle of miracles become potty trained) will be donated to local day care centers and social service organizations.

It has come to the attentions of Family Services that some parents are forced to economize by delaying diaper changes etc. This, obviously, presents a health hazard to the children and those around them in day care. There are over 1,300 diapers used each week at the Family Service centers. Please help if you can. This is the way one person makes a difference. If you would prefer to donate financially, go to the NVFS Diaper Drive for Tiny Clients 2013 page.

Note: Volunteers are also needed to pickup from the various drop off locations. See the NVFS web site for more information.

Thanks to Katie Fyke of McEnearney Associates for passing along this information.

Update - Grantor’s Tax Rate Reduction Proposed

Back in March we reported that the Virginia Assembly had approved a grantor’s tax increase effective after July 1. Grantor’s Tax is charged to all sellers. Governor Bob McDonnell, and his office working with the Virginia Association of Realtors (VAR), found the 25 cent increase was not necessary. Using more recent data, the same amount of money could be raised with a smaller increase. As a result, the Governor amended the bill asking that the proposed grantor’s tax increase be reduced from 25 cents per $100 to only 15 cents. This money is earmarked for congestion relief which includes a large portion of Northern Virginia. Hopefully the General Assembly will agree with this reduction. Read our original post here.

2013 Best Places to Work - McEnearney Associates Finalist

Each year the Washington Business Journal awards companies with the “Best Places to Work” title. Employees of the nominated firms respond to a lengthy and entirely anonymous survey. Based on the results of the survey, finalists are determined.

A total of 76 companies made the final cut – 25 in the “small” category; 25 in the “medium” and 26 in the “large company” category. McEnearney Associates is classified in the "large" company category and are the only residential real estate company among all 76 finalists.

The winners will be announced on May 9th at the McLean Hilton. One of the area McEnearney offices took a break for some fun and had a water ballon fight....lots of fun! Fingers and toes are crossed since we know McEnearney truly is THE BEST place to work!
