Herndon Housing Market

Like many communities this far west of Washington DC, housing in the area is diverse. Roughly 25,000 people call this desirable Northern Virginia community home. Despite Herndon's location being nearly 25 miles from Washington DC, or about a 40-minute drive without major traffic, Herndon still offers those considering a move to the area a convenient spot to call home.

With a rich history and many historical sites to see, you'll never get tired of Herndon. Being the third-largest town in the Commonwealth of Virginia you would expect it to feel like a large town, but its neighborhoods, downtown, and commercial areas prove you wrong. Having neighborhoods that look like an oasis of plant life in the man-made desert-like surroundings is an added benefit of living here.

Herndon Local Amenities

Two major Virginia highways, the Dulles Toll Road and Highway 28, run right alongside Herndon's south and west sides, providing quick access to a number of other Northern Virginia suburbs. In addition, the Dulles International Airport is just a short drive from Herndon, making it a very attractive option for homebuyers who travel regularly.

Another major attraction is the Herndon Centennial Golf Course, which is among the nicer public courses in the region. Downtown Herndon boasts a small-town feel, with a nice variety of shops, restaurants, and service businesses situated along Elden Street — the city's primary thoroughfare. But as part of the Dulles Technology Corridor, there are a few large office buildings and complexes located in the area, with some located south of the Dulles Toll Road and outside of the official Herndon boundaries.

Herdon Area Schools

Herndon is also part of the Fairfax County Public Schools system, with public schools serving the Herndon community including Clearview, Dranesville, Herndon, and Hutchison elementary schools, Herndon Middle School, and Herndon High School.
