The communities in Fairfax County south of Alexandria encompass a diverse range of real estate. Neighborhoods such as Mason Hill, Marlan Forest and Mount Vernon are perfect places to look for mid- to luxury-priced single-family residences. The mid-priced homes in these neighborhoods were built primarily in the 1960's and 70's and most have been substantially upgraded. In terms of size, these homes are generally over 2,000 sq. ft. and lots can be anywhere from a quarter to half an acre. If you are looking for a luxury home, Belle Haven, New Alexandria and Mount Vernon properties are for you. Here you will find beautiful and expansive, custom single-family homes. Most of the homes in the preceding neighborhoods are contemporary or traditional in theme, but if your taste in architecture runs more to the modern rather than traditional, you'll find the Hollin Hills neighborhood a breath of fresh air. Built in the 1950's and 60's, in this area you'll find primarily single-story modern-style homes on large lots.
If you are looking for condos and townhomes in New Alexandria, Belle View and Belle Haven on the Green are good bets. In New Alexandria, you'll find traditional-style, luxury townhomes, mostly dating to the 1960's, and in Belle Haven on the Green, which is adjacent to the Belle Haven Country Club, there are more modern townhomes. In Belle View you'll find many well-maintained, post-war condos, with loads of character.
