Clifton Housing Market

More remote and secluded than other more populous portions of Fairfax County, the Clifton real estate market offers a small town vibe, surrounded by a gorgeous Northern Virginia natural environment. Neatly situated in southwestern Fairfax County, Clifton includes a select number of single-family homes on its eastern and southern sides, amid a heavily forested landscape. Much of the northern side of the town remains reserved for equestrian use, which is just one of the many reasons that home buyers continue to consider Clifton for their new place to call home.

Altogether, there are only about 300 residents living within the boundaries of Clifton, with the town remaining roughly about the same size that it was in the 1900's. However, much of the stagnant growth is due to efforts to keep the beauty of the area intact when other nearby communities continue to grow in size. Homes for sale in Clifton, VA include traditional designs, as well as various custom-built multi-million dollar residences with plenty of room and space to grow.

Originally known as Devereux Station, Clifton was borne as a direct result of the Civil War, and has maintained the charm and feeling of a Norman Rockwell painting. Today, without traffic lights or a direct postal service, Clifton remains an enchanting relic of a time past. Functioning a few decades behind the rest of the world, Clifton is comprised of houses that are almost all over one hundred years old. The community had been protected from the surrounding sprawl by being declared a National Historic District by the US Department of the Interior.

Around 30 miles west of downtown Washington DC, commuters have an approximately 40-minute drive to reach the more urban areas of this region. Other distinguishing characteristics of life in this town include symbolic white picket fences and rural horse farms, allowing for residents to feel worlds away from the everyday hustle and bustle that surrounds much of the nearby Washington DC area.

Clifton is home to 5,000 acres of preserved land at Bull Run Marina Regional Park. It's a popular location for crew, including a marina and portions of the Bull Run-Occoquan Trail. Hemlock Overlook Regional Park, meanwhile, offers a place for canoeing along the Bull Run River, as well as horseback riding and hiking.
