The Island Creek real estate market consists primarily of mid-priced townhomes, ranging in size from around 1,500 to 2,500 sq. ft. Built in the mid-1990's, the Colonial-style homes are available in a variety of floor plans and exterior finishes. There are also some single-family homes in the development as well. These upscale residences are generally around 2,000+ sq. ft. on large lots.
There is a real sense of community here and while the Alexandria Island Creek subdivision is relatively new, the name itself is very old. When the home builders were looking for a name for the community, they searched through old records to discover that in the 1670's, the site had been named Island Creek. Their decision to restore the old name to this new community immediately imbued it with a sense of history.
Island Creek offers two kinds of condos, townhouse- and apartment-style units. The townhouses, located in the Netties Lane part of the development, are typically around 1,500 sq. ft. with two or three bedrooms. Some of the units have views onto a conservation area, while others overlook the community pool. The apartment-style condos are also found in the Netties Lane area of Island Creek. The units are spacious and attractive and very reasonably priced. The condos in Island Creek have access to their own pool and tennis court in addition to the regular facilities of the Island Creek development.
The Island Creek development enjoys truly outstanding amenities, including two swimming pools, along with several tennis, basketball and volleyball courts and a community clubhouse. There are also tot lots, pedestrian walkways and a pond. The homes in the development are within walking distance of Island Creek Elementary and walking trails linking the school to the neighborhood mean that the kids can get there without having to walk along major roads. Hayfield Middle and High School are also close by, about a five-minute drive away. For those that enjoy a walk, the Franconia-Springfield Metro station is about a mile and a half away and can be reached via a combination of suburban streets and pedestrian trails. Driving time to Fort Belvoir is about 15 minutes. It's 20 minutes to the Pentagon and 35 minutes to downtown DC.
