As recently as August 2013, CNN Money and Money magazines both ranked Vienna in Fairfax County, Virginia on their lists of the 100 best places to live in the US. So what makes Vienna so special? Aside from its highly-touted public school system, many love the community for its authentic small town-like charm, quaint downtown district, and wealth of transportation options that quickly and efficiently get residents to downtown Washington DC in a flash. If you prefer to drive to DC, however, Vienna homes for sale also offer a close proximity to several major highways, including Interstate 66 and Interstate 495, which provide direct access straight to downtown or around the outskirts of the city to various outer portions of the city.
Like much of Washington DC, the history behind the Vienna, VA community runs deep. First settlements here date all the way back to the mid 1700's, and even after a few name changes and the inevitable modernization over the years, the town of Vienna still embraces and reflects such history through landmarks and street names like Old Courthouse Road and Lawyers Road, which are a tribute to the original Fairfax County Courthouse that was built near the present day Tysons Corner.
Another appealing characteristic that continues to attract home buyers to this community and many other parts of Northern Virginia is that taxes here are significantly lower than in nearby Maryland, and Washington DC specifically. When you combine the popular schools, the easy access to Washington DC, and all the different transportation options, which includes a very close proximity to the Washington Dulles International Airport, it's hard to make a case against calling the wonderful community of Vienna, Virginia home.
Attractions in the area include Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts and the 100+ acre Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, but when you're also just 15 miles from the nation's capital, world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment is never more than just a few minutes away.
The Fairfax County Public School System serves the educational requirements of Vienna, Virginia's school students.
